"Is" is the same thing as =. The text following the word "is" is as much a definition of "deduction" as "5 = 4 + 1" is of 5. It's fairly obvious that 5 can also be defined as "5 = 3 + 2". So I get this: "Deduction is the tool by which" does not imply the definition of deduction is to follow. It also would not imply exclusion of deduction only to the application which follows." I'm more interested in understanding what you meant than getting a formal definition of deduction."Is" is the same thing as =. I'm just trying to understand what you meant. Asking if it can be dumbed down that way is me confirming that I'm on the right track. (Heh ;) If you're up to the challenge , find enough sentences of mine taken out of context in exactly the way you suggest. It would be entertaining. I personally think it's going to require more than a little bit of creativity working with what's there. In other words you could probably look at what I've written and make some fun and fictitious case suitable to the material, but shoehorning it as evidence of cat-fucking... I dunno. You know with the vast number of posts you have lingering around here I bet someone could combine enough phrases taken out of context to make it look like your saying that you fuck your cat.
I think your trying to take that out of context a bit there. My intent was not to define deduction, but rather to make the statement. "Deductive reasoning is necessary to process statistical data collected from our senses." That said "Deduction is the tool by which" does not imply the definition of deduction is to follow. It also would not imply exclusion of deduction only to the application which follows.I think your trying to take that out of context a bit there. OK, if I understand you: "Deduction is the tool by which we process stastistical data collected from our senses" could be dumbed down to ”Deduction is a learning function."?
