Dissection was pretty satanic,  Jon Nodveidt was a member of TOBL.  In my opinion,  he was a musical genius.

Coven's "Witchcraft Destroys Minds & Reaps Souls" (1969) was, probably, the first "Satanic Rock" album.

Dark Funeral: they've always claimed to be Laveyan Satanists.

Watain's views on Theistic Satanism are quite interesting, based on Dissection/MLO's philosophy.

Black Widow: I found this band a few days ago. They started with occult/satanic music but then they became another "normal" band.

Quote from Zach Black Actually the first legit Satanic band was the rolling stones.
I would have to disagree lol the problem being both Keith Richards and Old Rubber lips him self are devout christians.

One thing I find disturbing about this list is the serious lack of Mayhem lol you cant get much nastier or satanic than a band that includes suicide(the image of which was used for an album cover) murder between band members and burning down of churches.

Well, I don't really know much about the Stones since I never found them interesting, so, I won't say they're not "legit Satanic" and, IF they are (or were), I guess they're the first Satanic Rock band. My main reason to say that Coven's album was probably the first Satanic Rock act was because it was OPENLY Satanic, entirely, not just a title or one song about the Devil or subtleties: black robes, the sign of the horns, well known Demon's names in certain lyrics... and even the last track is a Satanic Mass.

But, well, it's all up to the listener's judgment... maybe being subtle is more Satanic than being obvious (and I gotta say that Sympathy For The Devil's lyrics are Satanic enough for me).

I'm so glad of reading Mayhem's name here! The whole Black Metal movement, back in the 90's when it was real, is my definition of "Real Satanic Bands".

It is quite difficult to make the difference between what's real and what's a hoax since Satan sells and there's a lot of supposed-to-be-satanic-music that's just marketing or sheep-minded people copying somebody else to be "cool" and "evil". Honestly, I don't really care about what's fake or real if the music makes me feel the correct emotions.

So... more music:

Aosoth: they're Theistic Satanists, they took their name from a Goddess of the ONA's Pantheon and, in the beginning, their lyrics were directly taken from ONA's rituals. Anyway, they say they're not ONA's members.

VI: formed by Aosoth and Antaeus members. Theistic Satanism again.

Just a random top-10 of supposed legitimately satanic bands.

I seriously wonder what "legitimately satanic" means to those who did this...

I am surprised that no one mentioned Gorgoroth.

If you ask me, they are the most satanic band currently.

If you look closely, you will notice that this band, or band's leader, Infernus, is a pure strong personalty behind this band.

He formed Gorgoroth to express his beliefs in Satan and to spoke for Satan himself. Throughout their career, they have changed a numerous of people, and each of them were pure strong individual with shaped attitude, philosophy and life sense, which means, Infernus wanted to create pure Satanic band with right people in it. I have readed a lot about him and the band and their philoshopy and all I can say I am amazed by them. Tho, I like their music and I listen to them very much, but sometimes, those people are the ones who are sometimes more interesting than the band itself :D

As I see it, the main problem about Gorgoroth's satanism is that, taking a look back to the band's line up through time, it's only Infernus who's a real satanist... in particular, I have Gaahl and King Ov Hell in mind.

Gaahl talked and talked about Satan when he was Gorgoroth's singer, but when he left, he made it obvious he's not a satanist as his speech is more wiccan with some Nietzscheanism.

About King Ov Hell... well,  who knows what his beliefs are? He used to proudly say "Our main agenda is to spread the word of Satan" when he was Gorgoroth's bassist, but later he admitted he's not a satanist.

I never researched about other band's members, but King and Gaahl wrote music and lyrics for some of my favorite Gorgoroth's songs, so, I can't say the band is truly satanic since (at least) these songs are built upon lies.

I like a lot the song Gorgoroth composed to spit in their faces...

I could agree with the part about King and Ghaal's songs that they aren't real...Luckily, they didin't wrote it too much.

Actually, I liked and I still like Ghaal, his vocals, live performances and etc. I know hes gay but that doesn't matter to me.

On Gorgoroth generaly: The band is Infernus's baby, his Satanic project, his Satanic vision which I like. Theres also the man who stand next to him and his name is Tomas Asklund, former Dissection drummer. Tormentor must be there also I guess.  Atterigner, (studio vocalist, but still Infernus friend and devoted Satanist).

Generaly, I consider this band very serious and very devoted to spread the word of Satan.

Well, I only commented the way I did because you stated that Gorgoroth are "the most satanic band currently".

Infernus is Gorgoroth? Actually... yes. And I agree that he's truly satanic in his own way, but anyway, in my opinion, his band is not as satanic as himself as it had fakeness inside in the past (and even nowadays, I really don't know what to think about some of the people Infernus recruits for Gorgoroth...).

I would say that the band is satanic as it's Satanism what fuels it, but I wouldn't say it's the most satanic band currently because, to me, they're not 100% pure (100% impure would be more accurate).

My opinion is just my opinion anyway. I'm not trying to tell you what's real and what's not true enough :P

I know man that you are not try to tell me whats real. I can recognize it.

As far as he is the mastermind in the band, I dont mind about people that he recruits..I still consider them (this last lineup) pretty good.

His vision and philosophy fits it all.

Since many of us in this thread are naming bands and individuals belonging to the Black Metal scene as "real satanic", maybe it's proper to remember the views of the Church Of Satan about the topic.

A Classic by Black Widow:

Most of what is being posted is not Satanic. Let me break this down one by one (by bands I know), in another reply I'll post legitimate acts.

Ghost B.C. isn't Satanic, they just want money from hipsters and Hot Topic emos.

Type O Negative was never about Satanism. Peter Steele was an atheist and became a Catholic at the end of his life.

The Rolling Stones were never Satanic. The name of that album was a parody and it had nothing to do with Satanism musically.

Marilyn Manson just wants to make money like Ghost.
Pantera was all about being edgy.

KISS is not Satanic.

Behemoth is not Satanic.

Venom is not Satanic.

Bathory, Celtic Frost, Hellhammer? Not Satanic.

Slayer? Impossible. Tom Araya's Catholic.

Bulldozer and Sodom aren't Satanic. Neither are Sepultura, Possessed, or Motley Crue.

Stevie Nicks, really?

Blue Oyster Cult too?

Satyricon just want money.

Coven isn't Satanic either.

I blew my brains out with a shotgun like Per Ohlin
Anyways, Gorgoroth is Satanic. So is Mercyful Fate/King Diamond.

Other bands:

Dissection (Jon, the band's visionary, was a member of a cult that followed theistic satanism; it was called the MLO).

Esoteric is a funeral doom that, in its early years, wrote about Satanism.

And I forgot the masters of theistic Satanism, Deicide:

Yeah I think that that user may have gotten carried away with a narrow notion of what is Satanic.  Behemoth (and Nergal specifically) are about as plainly dedicated to Satanism as is possible.  Just because a band is entertaining and theatrical does not mean they are not also sincere.

Here are a couple of bands that have performed at Satanic events in Los Angeles recently:
