Is perpetual bickering a sign of intelligence or a symptom of being socially inept? Since the intelligent usually choose political views which benefit them, how much can one deduce about someone simply from their political views? Enjoy.

Bickering and debating for testing oneself or others is a sign of intelligence. It can also be attention seeking behavior. The truly stupid are content to sit back and let others give orders.

∆ Rawk on!

OP: If anything, I agree that someone's chosen political views say much about them -- first of all that they're willing to let other people determine their options from which they choose.

My own political views are on record. Summing them up they are : "I'm Batman."

@OP: Forgot a point: It's usually people trying to pull the wool over someone's eyes and the pretentious who can't handle their pretense being exposed are who characterize open, honest debate as 'bickering'. When point when such debate is restricted or not respected it serves as a red flag (at least to me) that I'm dealing with a pretentious asshole in the best case.

Here in the 'LHP', merit matters.

A lot of bickering about bickering here. Apropos.

@Hartnell: your mock quotes didn't escape me. And neither did you.

"Here in the 'LHP,' merit matters." The embedded is the mock quote you used. Because if you attached real meaning to the term, you would not have put it in such CASE unless either the Opie was directly using it, or you were mocking it.

Hello, my name is Shawn Hartnell, and I am a "satanist". Or was that 'satanist'?

No, I think rather it was "idiot'. Full quotes. Both of them apostrophes.

Ah, well, I'm tired of debating the terms. My unique use of quotes means 'refers to my meaning, insert your own as you inevitably will'.

Oddly enough, as you've just done.

Wow, that was easy. Didn't even take half an hour. I always remembered you as having a bit more fortitude. Except, no, I didn't. You've always been that exact same bottle of Weaksauce(TM) that you always were. Bone up, Shawn, I'm not the boogeyman.

I appreciate your surrender, or whatever that was. In the future, I expect better. You can do better. I believe in you, Shawn.

If you want to point out inconsistencies at least recognize your own.
"Idiots' is not a 'full quote.' You failed at even using a quotation mark correctly.
Second, you are incapable of the simplest of grammar. Periods are contained within quotes.
Third, what is your point?

You just provided us with the perfect example of bickering as proof of lack of intelligence. People who bicker choose to deflect from the point of discussion and attack the individual in unrelated issues. To bicker is to argue a point completely unrelated to the discussion and deflect attention by insulting others to avoid being exposed as inferior in intelligence.
You achieved both.
Well done on showing us how to bicker.

You're welcome. It's been some time since this place had some color, so to speak. If you think for one minute that I didn't bait the hell out of you with the "one foot in, one foot out" strategy, then you have much to learn, Padowan.

As an aside, any suggestions for an avatar? I'm looking for something really cool, but not your standard "black t-shirt". And yeah, sometimes I don't want to quote my period. Because I have to balance my sexism with some antinomian shit from time to time.

In stead of all this fucking useless waste of time, in bickering, we should be finding solutions and offering to mutually share wisdom. None of us in the Satanic world, is the "super guru." of the path. That includes myself, as well. This is behaviour we leave to the christians. Lest we become mired in the muck of their denominational fights, as they are.

Bait? That's a beautiful way to rephrase "I meant to do that," but I believe you. I'm sure you were fishing for genuine interaction.

If anything, you've just revealed yourself. That might take some of the fun out of our interactions in the future. I'm not sure why you gave your game away so early.

I appreciate your willingness to recognize my interest in learning, as you felt inclined to call me by name. I'm not afraid to be wrong or challenged or duped. It makes things interesting.

I always saw bickering as having a "you're wrong, so you're stupid" attitude with no other point but to prove yourself right even if it makes no logical sense, where a debate is based on proving ones point with some depth, where it is more along the lines of "I disagree and this is why..." making the 'opponent' have to formulate a well thought response. Bickering is immature, but a debate can be inspirational.

I don't think you can deduce too much from someone based on their political views unless they are fundamental or extremely verbose about it, just like spiritual views. You probably couldn't tell the difference between a Democrat, Republican, or Anarchist, or Christian, Taoist, or Luciferian talking about music they enjoy. Once you add in the labels, though, then all hell breaks loose.

Thanks for taking the time to answer my question. Some boring responses and some very insightful ones.
