Today, our silly government announced the end of the mandatory quarantine and shortening of isolation from 10 to 7 days. Kids are coming back to school and there are plans to do away with the mask requirement in public places. The gov also gave up on their plans to make the vaccines mandatory for teachers and other occupations, apart from healthcare workers.

And all of that in the peak of infections. But the narrative now is "The virus is not as harmful and deadly as it was before." But has it ever been that harmful? With more countries lifting the restrictions, is this the end of the worldwide Covid histeria? Will people finally stop being crazy? Is this the matter of the virus evolving, people getting used to the "plague" or the governments' surrender to the pathogen which simply doesn't want to go away?

What are your predictions about the (post) pandemic future?

It was deadly enough to the elderly. 1.5% was still too high. Even in its lowest estimates it was still more than 10 fold the worst seasonal flu. Not near as bad as SARS Covid 1, but deadly enough to put most of the financially liable world into 'greater good' (read as self-serving) CYA mode. Hence shutdowns and mandates.

Now that it's fallen even with Influenza A (even more so with the omicron subvariant) there's no reason to care, and everyone has now lived through a 100 year pandemic in the more advanced scientific age. Maybe that leads to the 100 year war?

Covid can finally now end as we all await for Russia to fuck up Ukraine, the next worldwide distraction. The initial invasion will coincide with the closing Ceremonies in Beijing. And without NATO, "Ukraine is weak", with more used rusted Soviet era equipment than pre-taliban Afghanistan.

I look forward to a Hopi-esque apocalypse of disharmony and increasingly destructive adversity befalling all civilization. Not quite 536 CE, but approaching those levels of dysfunction. Maybe even in this generation?

Your government is late. Our quarantines were reduced to 5 days in January and our kids have been back to school for a year now. Everything is now on the upside. And no, obviously - nothing will ever be "normal" again. Relaxed, but not normal.

The situation in the US has always been more relaxed than in Europe. We might be late here but in the Western EU countries the restrictions were more severe. Anyway, I prefer to go by my direct observations than the TV or internet news. And from what I see at work or among my friends and acquaintances nobody seems to take this "pandemic" seriously. In the beginning even those who weren't panicking used to be more cautious. I think people who approached it all with healthy doubts and common sense reservations lived quite normal lives even amidst the surrounding paranoia.

Somehow, the possible invasion of Ukraine is more often present in the foreign than our national news. Fuck, I hope those stinking Russians won't invade Poland. I don't want to live under Putin's rule.

Naw, Poland is one of the "safe" countries: Austria, Belgium, Bulgaria, Croatia, Republic of Cyprus, Czech Republic, Denmark, Estonia, Finland, France, Germany, Greece, Hungary, Ireland, Italy, Latvia, Lithuania, Luxembourg, Malta, Netherlands, Poland, Portugal, Romania, Slovakia, Slovenia, Spain and Sweden.

No more under threat than Lithuania.
