Looking back is painful.
Cringe-worthy. Very cringe-worthy, and not much beyond, unless otherwise noted. It's a rare social group seldomly existing in "real life". Almost all that could be considered "facepalm inducing" really isn't, unless your self-worth is tied to looking a certain way.

Looking back painful? I think it's amusing. Whenever I look back at my old posts, I nearly always laugh. And the older all those conversations are, the more comedy-like they seem to me. Not that I'm thinking over it all too often. I just look back at the random old stuff from time to time for the sake of entertainment.

Oh all right. Yet these forums have always had their fair share of idiots. I don't see there are more of them. I even dare say there are fewer of them as if idiots themselves lost interest. I wouldn't blame a particular forum or some specific people for that. Forums are generally on decline.

Perhaps, this is what adaptation means? If we really want to refer to nature, it's not always the strongest who survive.
Personally, anyone who proves resistant to ostracism gains a few extra points in my eyes no matter whether they diffuse their opposition with intelligent counter arguments or just manage to bore their opponents to death or annoy them with persistent bullshit to the point of them giving up. It's the sort of ambiguous feeling of respect I feel for the weed that refuses to give up on thriving in one's garden in spite of all one's hardest attempts to eradicate it. Or for all those ugly bugs who get increasingly better at resisting your desperate attempts to drive them out of your home.
