There have been a few rants recently (some of them deleted) praising retribution, even if it doesn't serve your self-interest, and following your impulses and triggers even if they are counterproductive. For shits and giggles, let's call them engrams. Did I say that right? But there is more to it. The positive psychology and motivational quotes and anecdotes tell you that you should never give up no matter how hard and dark it becomes. I appreciate the good fight and realize that sometimes confrontation is advisable, even necessary. But what if it means getting stuck with other people's bullshit?
I'm not talking about some extreme situations like getting gang-raped and harbouring a compulsive, yet perfectly legitimate, desire to boil your oppressors alive but not before cutting off their dicks. I mean people and situations that suck the energy out of you unless you leave them behind and never look back. The negative ROI. Like the toxic relationship. What is more productive: to seek revenge on your shitty partner or saying fuck you and finding a more satisfying relationship or living alone? Or let's say your boss is an asshole. What is more productive to spend your energy on? Suing him, smearing his name or turning back and seeking a new job with less toxic atmosphere?
What makes you fight, persevere and seek confrontation. Is quitting ever an option for you? If so, then what makes or would make you quit and why?
