I'm Jenny... a short, fat, vaguely gothy 38-year old female, living in Leicestershire, UK with a troublesome parrot as a pet, and my disapproving ex as a lodger.
If you'll briefly excuse the blithe contradiction in terms, I'm inclined to describe myself as a LaVeyan Satanist with theistic leanings. I dare say I will eventually end up in one or other of the two main camps, but sitting on the fence and describing myself as "darkly agnostic" is reasonably comfortable for now.
Background wise, I was raised nominally Anglican until being picked up by charismatic evangelicals who wanted to save the local weirdo. I studied theology extensively and converted to Roman Catholicism in my early 20s with a sincere enough belief, but that "black flame" burned strong within me. No ground was ever gained in the battle with my supposed sins. By the time I first read The Satanic Bible I was already 90% convinced I was better suited to vice than virtue.
As for other interests, I have a passion for music (esp. old goth rock, shoegaze, industrial, doom metal, psychedelic, and post mid-19th century classical). I'm also a voracious reader of 19th and 20th century classics, various theological works, antique housekeeping manuals, medieval history, and a sprinkling of dystopian sci-fi. I'm also very partial to outdoorsy pursuits such as hiking, open-water swimming, camping and canoeing, though my physique certainly belies it.
I think that's quite enough for now. I look forward to some interesting discussions!
